Harry Potter

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

Seeing as every time a new Harry Potter book comes out I spend the first 200 pages trying to remember what happened in the previous installment (just who is/was Sirius Black, anyway? And was I supposed to care?), I’ve decided to re-read them all in time for the final tome is released. The first six weigh in at a cool 2,800 pages, so to avoid reading all night on July 20th (and so’s not to get bogged down in the drudgery of Harry Whinger and the Order of the Phoenix) I’ll have to pace myself by reading 82 pages per day between then and now…

It’s been a while since I read the first one and — 99 pages in — already I’ve been struck by how well it is written and by the detail with which Rowling fleshed out the HP universe. Even Sirius Black gets mentioned on p. 16. Maybe Mr. Black was supposed to be more interesting than he ultimately was.
